Zero|90

The latest in a long line of innovations Pearl Windows have made, to adapt to the changing needs of the sector.

What is Zero|90

Zero|90 is an ultra-energy-efficient window and door system by Liniar, designed and made in Britain for a low-carbon future.

The range includes the UK’s first Passivhaus-certified PVCu casement window, and offers a sustainable, cost-effective solution to rising energy prices and external noise.

Delivering U-values as low as 0.66 W/m2K, Zero|90 can save homeowners up to £15,000 in energy costs over a normal useful lifespan of 35 years. Using less energy also helps to reduce a building’s carbon footprint, supporting the UK’s journey towards Net Zero.

Zero|90 offers twice as much noise protection in comparison with standard double-glazing, reducing noise by up to 42dB. This means occupants can enjoy a more peaceful home environment for an overall enhanced quality of life.

Featuring a recycled core and fully recyclable at the end of its useful life, Zero|90 contributes to the circular economy for additional carbon savings to those generated by its energy performance. This makes Zero|90 one of the most sustainable window and door systems in the UK.

An innovative retrofittable option, Zero|90R, means installers won’t need to remove the plaster line or face expensive replastering work when replacing standard 70mm frames. New windows will fit neatly into the existing reveal, thanks to the clever innovation built into every Zero|90R frame, making ultra energy-efficient performance accessible to older buildings too.

With a modern, chamfered bead, Zero|90 is available in a choice of popular, coloured foiled finishes to suit every building.

Jeff Walsh, CEO of Pearl Window Systems said “We are delighted to be one of the first fabricators in the UK to embrace this new and innovative product from Liniar, again, setting their standards so high to be at the forefront of technology driving efficiencies and sustainability.  Our facilities now accommodate the full range of Zero 90 offerings, now in full production of the 90mm triple-glazed system, capable of a U Value of 0.66.  Accommodating a unique but purpose-built window system to carry a 56m triple glazed unit, enhanced and new robust hardware to perform how a true triple glazed window and door system should in the marketplace today.”

Future Homes Standard Liniar, the UK’s leading PVCu systems company and a subsidiary of Quanex, is proud to announce it recently became a member of the Future Homes Hub.  The Hub brings together all those involved in home building to help achieve the climate and environmental goals for the sector linked to the Government’s legally binding Net Zero and wider environmental targets. Liniar places a strong emphasis on providing energy-efficient products, that not only contribute to low-carbon building solutions, but are also manufactured with a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

Ed Lockhart, CEO of The Future Homes Hub said, “New homes are undergoing rapid change to be ready for the climate and environmental challenges of the 21st century. No area of the economy is moving faster in this transition than the homes we build; the new homes sector will be zero-carbon in operation through the Future Homes Standard.” He continues, “We have a collective responsibility to deliver the sector’s climate and environmental targets while building higher quality homes at the scale needed. We can only do this if we all work together.  I am therefore delighted that Liniar has joined the Future Homes Hub to be part of this positive change. We’re looking forward to working together with this growing community to share our solutions and expertise, accelerating progress to a net zero future.”

Liniar Group Managing Director Martin Thurley states, “Liniar has a proud history of designing and developing innovative, highly energy-efficient products for the construction industry, and is committed to collaborating on the UK’s journey towards Net Zero. The recent launch of our Passivhaus-capable window and door system Zero|90 is a prime example. These products offer some of the best energy performance capabilities and noise-reducing properties on the market, as well as a genuine solution to future-proofing regulatory compliance. Being manufactured using recycled components also means Zero|90 offers whole life carbon reductions, making it one of the most sustainable window and door systems in the UK.” Martin adds, “Liniar also continues investing in its facilities to ensure sustainable manufacturing processes and we’re currently on track to achieve our ambitious goal of being carbon neutral by 2025.” Zero|90, Liniar’s Passivhaus-capable window and door system that’s already ahead of any planned Future Homes Standard targets, was launched in early 2023 and serves as a prime example of Quanex being fully supportive of investment in new product innovation.

Liniar’s Design and Development Director, Chris Armes, discusses the project Chris states, “Investment in new product development is a crucial part of Liniar’s success, allowing the business to expand the product range, fulfil existing market opportunities, anticipate future regulations and enter new markets. We had long recognised the benefits a highly energy efficient 90mm window and door system would offer the construction industry, including enhanced energy efficiency, improved noise reduction, and reduced carbon emissions.”He continues, “Whilst the whole fenestration industry was facing uncertain times in 2020, with subsequent surges in demand and associated challenges across the supply chain for the following two years, Liniar took the strategic decision to continue investing in the development of Zero|90. During these uncertain times, many other companies were halting investment and innovation through necessity.  The rationale was clear; the industry would need products of this nature as we moved towards the Future Homes Standard in 2025 and we knew the development of a full system could take years, so there was no time to lose.”

Pearl Windows New Build Division launched in early 2023 and has since grown rapidly, securing many new build sites across the North of England and East Midlands for house builders, such as Barratts, Taylor Wimpey, Bloor Homes, Miller Homes, Bellway Homes, Vistry, Lovell Homes and Northstone.
